Second pillar
Disaster relief
When the village is hit by what no one can plan for, the association stays.
Friends for Nepal is not a disaster organisation. Twice, though, the village needed help that could not wait.
In April 2015 the earthquake sat about 80 kilometres north-west of Kathmandu. Tom, Usha and Günther were on the ground. Food, tents, houses, sanitation, a second school in Chhaling.
In October 2024 heavy rain hit. Large parts of the access road to the school were buried under debris. The slopes around the school atrium need to be stabilised. Retaining walls are still required — whether they are finished is unconfirmed.
Sponsorship carries the school day. Disaster relief carries what interrupts that day.
